Our
Statement of Faith
We
believe the Bible to be the infallible, authoritative,
inspired Word of God, and the only standard for Christian
living.
We
believe that there is only one God, the Holy Trinity,
eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and
Holy Spirit.
We
believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His
virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles,
in His substitutionary and atoning death through His
shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension
to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal
return for His bride, the Church.
We
believe that all men are born in sin and that the only
way of salvation is by personal, believing faith in
Christ Jesus, the Savior, with the regeneration of the
Holy Spirit through whom God makes us eternally secure.
We
believe in the personal ministry of the Holy Spirit
by whose indwelling the Christian is able to live life
abundantly.
We
believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the
lost; the saved unto the resurrection of eternal life,
and the lost unto resurrection of eternal death.
We
believe that the ordinances of the church are baptism
by immersion, and the Lord’s Supper.
We
believe in the spiritual body of all believers in our
Lord Jesus Christ and that the local congregation is
composed of those united for worship, instruction, fellowship,
and evangelism.
Our
History
Atwater
Baptist Church was founded in 1950 by a small group
from Merced First Baptist Church. We began as small
groups meeting in homes. A Missionary Society,
Guild Girls, and Baptist Youth Fellowships were formed
and the first pastor was called in 1952. Church property
was purchased in 1953 and the current facilities were
occupied in June of 1954. Our church is affiliated with
the American Baptist Churches of America.
Our
vision is to see the Lord adding to our
number daily such as are being saved (Acts 2:47)
Our
mission is encapsulated in the words
of our owner, Jesus Christ: simply, “GO!
Make disciples!” (Matthew 28:19)
Our
strategy is to serve our community in
every way we can (Matthew 25:31-46).
We
believe “all scripture is given
by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine,
for reproof, for instruction in righteousness…”
(2 Timothy 3:16)
Our
goal in life is to emulate the person,
work, and teachings of Jesus Christ (John 17:20-26).
We
seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit
(John 16:13).
And,
we conduct all of our ministry activities under
the principle of consensus (I Corinthians 12:12-26). |
